Prayer is central to all spiritual traditions. Unity was founded on prayer. At first, two people came together on a daily basis for prayer, our co-founders Charles and Myrtle Fillmore. Soon, neighbors joined them. Then the Fillmores began writing pamphlets, delivering lectures and guiding people in meditation. In turn, people began meeting in prayer, and many of these groups grew and became churches. Prayer remains the central activity of Unity. Today we learned about prayer, not so much as petitions and pleas, but as affirmations, which are Unity's unique contribution to spiritual practice.
